Associate Partner - The Golf FoundationThe Golf Foundation is a charity established to promote the sporting and social development of children and young people through golf. It believes that golf is a wholesome activity that enriches the lives of those who participate in the sport. Through its work, it aims to give all young people a positive experience through the medium of golf regardless of their background or circumstances.
The concept of ‘Skills for Life’ links directly to the Golf Foundation’s mission and underpins the organisation’s work. It is a concept based on the belief that children and young people are able to develop both playing skills and personal skills through the Foundation’s development initiatives, which will benefit them for the rest of their lives.
Encouraging children and young people to learn and practice the basic golf skills – putting, short game, long game, playing and the golfer’s code – will lead to the psychological and physical benefits associated with improvement, personal achievement and life-long participation in sport. The Golf Foundation recognises the importance of junior golf development work and believes that investment at this level is necessary if golf is to remain a strong and successful sport.
Golf places strong emphasis on standards of behaviour and, therefore, is an ideal medium through which children and young people can develop six core personal skills – honesty, respect, co-operation, perseverance, concentration and self-motivation – which will help them through their youth and into adulthood. The focus on personal skills has helped with the development of golf in the education sector.
From 1st January 2010, the Golf Foundation will be delivering ‘Skills for Life’ through a national project called ‘Golf Roots’ which will include community activity in schools and clubs as well as special projects that target inner city and urban areas.
Through its work, the Golf Foundation is helping to generate committed young golfers and mature young individuals.
